Students will begin to understand the idea of collecting/collections.
Students will explore and discuss themes of collections through art.
Students will discuss why people collect.

1. Do you have a collection?  If yes, what is it a collection of?  If not, would you like to collect something?
2. Why do people collect things (art)?
3. What can we learn about people/art through collections?

ACTIVITY
Students will make a display to hang their collections. Using a wire coat hanger of any color, have students tie ribbon, yarn or even wire strings of different lengths and colors from the horizontal part of the hanger.  Attach a paperclip or small clothespin to the end of each string. Have students attach their collection or talk about what they will attach at home. Why do they collect this certain object? How will they feel having it displayed?
